Ok... here we go!
1. First, yes, by request by many fans of the forum I have agreed to continue on with the site after calling it quits late 2011. To say the least, I am blown away by the interest and messages and will do my best to post but it will be very limited due to my schedule with other music projects I'm involved with. Thanks again for the support. Of course there were a few that wanted me to drop dead but other than that, the response has been positive. :-)
2. Rumour my band Flat Stanley has completed our album. Well, that's not quite true but close. All the music is done and we are presently recording guest singers for the project. That part is going amazingly well and once that is done, I'll do the mix and send it to the printers. Graphics are all done. Oh, and yes, Dale Corcoran will be singing on one track of the album.
3. Rumour Van Halen has a new album out. True.. and I love it. It's back to the good old days when they knew how to rock and have fun, before Hagar turned them into a ballad band. :-)
4. Still no Cheesie Smurphy album... :-(
5. A few bands have thrown in the towel or have regrouped. One being my band Wishbone. We have a new bass player Steven Flint. Headaches with the previous bass player just became too much. It is also true that our new bass player was in the hospital with a serious health problem. He is now home and recovering. Thanks to those who sent well wishes. ;-)
Other band changes in the rumour mill are "Big Wheel and the Spokes" who have thrown in the towel. Reasons I've heard are simply that the drummer didn't want to do the bar circuit anymore. Let me know if you've heard any other reasons.
Scott from Turner Up has regrouped, started a new band, and shut down another band all in one breath. :-) His new band Havadder are playing local shows but I do believe his other project Full Circle have pulled the plug. A revamped Turner Up has also taken place with the return of Krista Marshal on vocals. Krista is so easy on the eyes and a welcome return to one of the Soo's popular bands.
Sadly, the passing of David Gold, the creative force behind the band Woods of Xypres will affect the band and many others around it. A tribute is planned and you can read about that on the Sault's Metal Scene. I was not a fan of their music but respected the talent and determination of Gold who will be sadly missed by his loyal fans.
6. Yes, Bryan Adams is coming to the Soo again. Tickets are cheap and I may just end up going. :-) Oh, and my band Wishbone is trying to get the opening slot.. shhhhh! It's a secret. ;-)
7. The Kallie Matson band continue to make positive waves with their music and video. Love them or hate them, they're fan base is growing. I bought their album and enjoyed parts of it. It's simplicity made me tire of it quickly but that doesn't mean I didn't like it. They are back recording again and have also donated a song called "Come & Gone" to the D.I.F.D. organization, who are raising awareness for youth mental health here in Ottawa. Now that is pretty damn cool of these guys. Good Work!!
8. There have been rumours flying around that my recording studio "Screaming Mosquito" will record other acts. That is absolutely false. My studio will only record projects I'm involved with. Sorry!!! So please stop asking. :-)
9. Rumour of the local band Sneaky Pete recording an EP is news to me. They are playing a lot and have been doing well but I've not heard this rumour. I will find out though. Their guitarist did record albums with a band called Foothill Road so that might be the confusion. ;-)
10. Apparently the rumours of the Canadian bar not booking bands is false. "yawn".. Every day I hear a different rumour about this place. It's getting to the point that most really don't care anyways. :-) All I care about is that they overhauled the men's washroom. :-)
11. This isn't a rumour but just a fact.. HMV prices on CD's and DVD's is criminal!!!! Bring back CDPlus!!
12. Rumours that Local band Aftersight have been jamming is partially true. I am considering a concert with my band Wishbone
and Aftersight as a future double bill if Ed from Aftersight is into it. I'm still planning this so at the moment, it's a rumour. :-) Ed and I once played in the local rock band Route 69. ;-)
That's it for my first Rumour post of 2012.
