Well kids, here's the latest in rumours for our local music scene. This is covering the past few months to present.
1. Freq's Music Planet along with The Barking Eye forum will close at the end of 2011. This is true unless my time schedule opens up. Right now I am so busy with my music, recording studio and graphic work that I have little time to post daily news and gossip on either forum. That's just the facts of life. I may transfer the forum and blog to others to run but I won't speculate on that at this time. Could things change at the end of 2011? Of course they could but after 10 years of doing this forum along with Musicians Central on Soonet, it's time to move on. I've just found that local musicians really don't give a shit about forums for the knowledge factor. They just want to condemn others. Over the past few years I've experiemented with that theory by posting subjective topics and guess what? Local musicians bit into it and the ratings and viewer ship tripled on the forum yet when you post quality info, the hits on the topics were few and far between. What does that say and mean? It means, most local musicians aren't into "music" for the right reasons. Yes, some are but my experiment proves otherwise. Anyone who truly knows me understands what my objectives were and still are in music and that goes for this forum. If you take it at face value, you'll get sucked into the "experiment". This is what I call small thinking. I know some idiots have learned a hard lesson by taking material on this forum out of context and in doing so, hurt others. That is the perfect example of gullable simple minded people not understanding the simple written word on this forum. ;-) You know who you are. These people are now repenting their sins. If people think I'm a dick for this forum that is too bad. If you actually paid attention to what I was writing you could easily see the past few years were experimental. It all worked out. Ratings climbed, dumb people went out and did retarded things based on what they read here and the bottom line is, I remained focused on my music and life. Those who understood what I've been posting throughout these 10 years, are the ones that have the smarts to work through any situation without causing problems or harm to others. Yes folks... there's a method to my madness.
2. Wishbone and Glen "the Freq" Reunite? Yes, that is true and the jams continue with new material. Along with me returning to Wishbone, I also bring my guitarist from Flat Stanley and so far everything seems to be working nicely. Flat Stanley is still going strong with bassist Mark so don't be disappointed. The Wishbone venture is just another labour of love for original material. Learning to play my old drum parts was a hoot.
3. Turner Up is out another singer? Not sure, but I have heard that from a few fans of the band today. I have no solid facts on that or who a possible replacement is. One thing about Turner Up is that they just don't lose moment when changing singers. It's uncanny. That is a rare quality that most bands including my own have never mastered. I'm sure if the rumour is in fact true, they will have already found a singer.
4. The Sault Metal Scene is about Metal Music. TRUE. That was easy wasn't it? |O|
5. Rumours are that Kid Rock might be coming to the Soo. Well, I think it's just that .. a rumour but there is a group trying to get enough people interested that maybe he might come here... something like the KISS concert. Who knows. I think he stinks but lots of people like him so either way, it's good for the Soo.
6. Local Southern Fried are what? Don't ask me.. I've not seen them yet. Surely someone has video of this new local band. Rumours of small audiences are the only thing I've heard but again, I have no clue. The wav of the future is "video" so I suggest to all local bands to get really good and post videos of your shows. Audiences want both ear and eye candy these days. GEt with the program. If you don't sound good on video then it's time to quit or get better. You have to be into media these days and promote the shit out of yourself because no one's going to do it for you unless you pay them. ;-) For new bands like Southern Fried and others, video helps gain a fan base and best of all, it's free. ;-)
7. Rumours are that "The Freq" is still an opinionated asshole. But of course!! Why wouldn't I be an opinionated asshole? I think I fit in just fine with all the regular assholes in our local music scene. What? You don't think there are other assholes in our local scene? Yikes.. You can't be that naive. I think most musicians have a little "asshole" in all of us. HA!
8. Rumours that the earth's axis has shifted? Apparently it has and because of that, more idiots are roaming the earth killing others. The world is so violent these days that it scares the hell out of me. With that, more egomaniac musicians have been born so watch out as they infect
others as they spread their poison. ;-)
9. Rumours that Ric Datson and Kelly Jackson were inducted into the local Country Music Hall of Fame run by Dave Patterson. Yes, this is true and a well deserved honour. Both are stellar musicians with years of dedication to their craft. It's too bad their is a Hall of Fame for rock musicians. Maybe someday. I may have commented on this in a previous post so sue me if I did and repeated it. :-)
10. Rumours about my mom passing away recently are true. My mom was the one that got me into music and fully supported all my ventures over the years. My mom was a classical pianist who won awards for her playing in her youth. These awards were attained in Toronto where she was taught music. She helped widen my tastes in music and taught me to observe and enjoy all styles of it. To put it in her own words "Good music is universal no matter what style". She suffered from Alzheimer's Disease since the late 90's until her recent death. My mom was also a beautiful singer but all that and her piano talents were lost when the disease took over her body and mind in recent years. She always told me to stand up for what I believe in and that I have never faultered on. The seed of music was planted by her in my heart and I will continue with music for the rest of my own life. I come from a very musicial family but none of that would have been possible without the love and support of my mom, Rita.
That's it for now folks.
