Along with recording my own material plus Flat Stanley's material for our upcoming CD, I have recently been asked to drum on a few songs by local experimental guitarist/ song writer Mike Cliffe. Mike writes in a number of styles and doesn't stick with one thing. He approached me via Facebook to add drums to his song "Bad Regime". Also involved with this project is singer/ keyboardist "Karin" from Sweden.
What we do is record our parts and send them to Mike and he puts the song layers together. Mike originally sent us the song based on guitar in wav format and gives us the click track settings. We then add that wav file and the metronome setting to our own recording gear and add our part. We then send our parts back to Mike. It's a lot of fun and you get to play with musicians from around the world without ever meeting them. I am doing this with some American musicians only I am the main engineer on this one. That band is called "Brain Eaters From Pluto". Mike Cliffe has a good selection of his material on his Reverbnation page and I will be adding drum parts to a few of his other songs that presently have drum machine parts. I call Mike's style experimental because his ideas are never predictable which is why I look forward to adding my drum parts to his material. Unpredictable is fun for a drummer :-). I like material that is not the norm or what I like to say is "outside the box". When the songs are done, you will be able to hear them on Mike's Reverbnation site. In the meantime, listen to some of Mike's other material on his site.
