Well, to say the least, I am flattered. The local band Gsis Murphy has actually named their comeback show after me. I couldn't be more proud. Is this comeback number 5 for these guys? I'm not quite sure. I've lost count. Their other comebacks came and went like a dry fart so you can understand if my memory of them is a little shy. ;D The "Beat" part of their title show puzzles me however. Could The Smurfs be resorting to violence against me, the Freq??? or is it sexual?? ooh yucky!!. In either case, most of their fans won't have a clue on what they're talking about but their close buddies can giggle and laugh. "tee hee hee". Yup. Same ole Smurfs.
What makes me even more proud is that after starting Musician's Central and creating "Freq's Music Planet" and supporting local talent as much as I could, people like the guys in Gsis Murphy still visit these forums and read what I post. Thanks guys!!! Unfortunately, on the flip side, one thing I can say is that the Smurfs never gave much support to other local bands. Musicians outside of their band all know this as fact but it is unfortunate that they take what is posted on my forum as slams when in fact it's "just deserts". Sadly though, the new musicians that have taken the places of their old drummer and bass player were never part of the posts on this forum but have since taken it to be so, and to heart. Sorry guys. Not so. I will say that you will unknowingly fall under the "curse of smurf" as you start playing shows. Don't ask what the curse is. You will learn it on your own as the poison sets in. It is possible that the new lineup will spark interest in their band again but really, does anyone care anymore? I will say this in closing, Gsis Murphy had a good thing going with the original lineup. They were on top in the Soo, which really means nothing if you think about it, and they had a great band. What people don't understand is that Mike, their original drummer was key to their success and to think otherwise is naive and pretty damn foolish. When ego set in after Mike left, the "fall from grace" was legendary and quick. I don't think any band has fallen faster. And YES, we laughed. Many many musicians that you never supported, slammed or made fun of, laughed. Like I said, it's just deserts.
A long time ago I was asked to play for Gsis Murphy.. Hard to believe I know but yup, I still have the email asking. Again, I was flattered but it's hard for a person like me to get interested in a band like that when before they asked, they slammed me and never supported my bands and then after I said no, they still slammed me and never supported my bands. Can human beings get any lower?? They're only your friend when they want something I guess. Needless to say I have no regrets for saying "NO".
Soooo for those going to see the Gsis Murphy Tribute concert to me, enjoy. I'm sure they will play well as always. I have a knitting class that night so I'll have to pass on going.. |O|

As a bystander and a music lover, I must say that there is an obvious bitterness between the Freq and Gsis Murphy. It sounds to me like the Freq is critisizing Gsis Murphy for not supporting his musical ventures and is also grounding the success of the Murphy boys on one former band member. I am not sure I can understand the motivation for verbally bashing members of a group (as well as its new members) that have sustained more success than most all the bands that play in this community. Their track record is one that speaks for itself. I have had the opportunity to see this band play live on numerous occasions and have found them to be a very good live band with an excellent following. When we criticize other bands for their lack of success, then we should also be willing to recognize and respect the success that they have achieved. If we fail to do that, we are not speaking critically, we are speaking hastefully. Valuable criticism is both negative and positive and people listen a lot more when your opinion is grounded in fact and good judgment as opposed to rhetoric and rumour. To predict a 'fall from grace' is a very unprofessional comment. I believe the musicians that make the effort to put their best foot forward should, at least in part, be respected. When will the bashing ever stop? A very famous musician once told me that being a professional means knowing your instrument well and getting along with others very well. Do with that advice what you will.

Do with that advice what you will. Are you a retard? I have to ask because Floyds coffee was ruined by your post and that's very important to me. |O| Truthfully, I have only liked one member of their past band and that was Steve, their old bass player. He's the guy that had the talent. Steve and I did some fill in gigs together and the bottom line is, he's the only one I respect out of the lot. The original drummer for Smurfs is also a friend and sorry to burst your bubble, the "man" behind that band. As for them supporting my ventures, oh please. Once in my lifetime was enough for me and ya know what? It wasn't that memorable. The clouds never parted, the sky never rained with bright beams of light and I wasn't lifted off my feet by the power of Smurf. Sorry, I just saw egos with no talent to back it up except Mike.. the man on drums. Yes MIke.. Shall I say it again? Mike! |O| "Fall from Grace" wasn't a prediction. It happened |O| If I could predict crap like that I'd be the richest comedian in the world 'cause that's some damn funny sh*t. |O| I hope the new musicians in Smurfs still have their souls after their experience. They're big boys I'm sure and can handle what's about to happen to them. I'm just glad I didn't "venture" into that mess and that's all I care about. They asked me to play |O| damn.. again that's more funny sh*t. |O| and they asked my guitarist to play with them.. MORE funny sh*t. Stop stop stop.. this is killing me. haha. Geez, I have to say I'm so damn flattered with all this hype on the Beat the Freq gig. A competition about gigs I play compared to the Smurfs. Ya see, that's where we've always differed. For me, it IS about the music and not the games like this scenario. Smurfs were always about head games. Their music? no substance. I didn't make it that way. Smurfs chose that route. Can't blame me for seeing that first hand like other musicians in town. |O| Ya see, we know the Smurfy truth. ;D

Isn't it ironic how the old Smurf forum use to bash the Freq and now after the 3 years Freq's forum has been in existence, we're being invaded by them? They never suported it before. Maybe they've come to apologize for all that stuff? and Fingerbang you're too much |O| Oh yeah.. I remember their forum and the crap on Musician's Central and the Freq bashing. I remember all those wonderful people that never contributed to that old forum except to stir is up and wreck it or throw digs. hmmmm That old singer in That's Chester comes to mind and so many others. Isn't it odd that just the other day he wanted to be added to my Facebook friends list yet he's snickering like a tool over this "Beat the Freq" stuff. Can't trust any of them and really, life is so much better without hacks like that around. The original drummer in Smurfs told me not to trust them and I took his advice and it was the truth. True Bilko, they never ever supported this forum when I started it. I advertised it enough on Soonet when I started it but hey, snotheads just wanted to d.i.c.k.around rather than make either forum a place of music. It's funny when I think back at Musician's Central and how limited the mods were to act on problems on that forum. We could only delete posts.. Nothing else. Smurfs would cry to me to ban people and blah blah blah. I'd send a message to the admin on there who didn't even live in the Soo and try and get some justice. Never worked. On here though, I have full control and there will be NO interference from those who aren't about the positive side of music . Smurfs are definitely not about the music, the music scene or fellow musicians. They and some others had years to show or prove this but their egos always got in the way. Remember their bassist Tim? I always thought he was a great guy with White Stallion. He got in Smurfs and his entire personality changed and he became one of those creeps that soured Musician's Central. I lost all respect for him. Hmm "curse of smurf"?? Could be ;-). I could care less what any of them think of me. I've been slammed so much by them and other pricks that it helped me focus more on my music, Oddly, after all the stabs in the back, it's still about music with me. Guess what? I'm still loyal to it. All I ever needed was music.
