I've done a number of sessions in studios around town but recently an interesting problem has been surfacing and I hope this trend doesn't continue. The problem is simply this. What studios now operating locally allow a full band to play while only recording certain tracks or all tracks. The dilema is that it seems for example, a drummer plays to a ghost track of the guitar with possible a vocal. The problem with this way of recording is that you don't or rarely capture the band "feel" or "chemistry" that a band has playing as a whole. Is the old way of having a complete band play all at once gone away for ever? This little snag seems to have come about with the new digital recording systems. There is so much missing in recording now a days just by tracking one instrument at a time. Boring.. I'm not saying you don't get a half descent product but it's not really capturing the bands true vibe.

Yeah, unless your recording with me, where I can play the song 100 times perfectly, then as soon as you say "record" I f**k it up 200 times. So, record the whole band, but put me on a separate channel, and pack a lunch.

Funny you say that.. I'm like that with bass and guitar.. I choke. It's not nervousness. I think it's more perfection or the fear of not achieving it.
