Some shocks for me this week as I read the news.
1. Famous car customizer Boyd Coddington has died at 63
from complications do to a surgery he recently had. No details
on exactly what. He is known for designing the ZZ Top car
"Cadzilla" and many other fabulous cars. If you ever watch the
Barret Jackson car auctions, Boyds cars draw HUGE bucks
and I hate to say it, more now. He had a hit show on the Discovery network and was usually pretty mean on it.. |O| The show was based in his customizing shops and showed how his cars were made.
2. Singing drummer Buddy Miles has died at 60 from heart
disease. He became famous for playing in a band with
Jimi Hendrix. It was called "Band of Gypsies". He also
had a great solo career and had a major hit with the songs
"Them Changes" and a remake of Neil Young's called "Down by the River". Many do not know this but he was the lead vocal that you heard in the old California Raisins commercials.. The sang "Heard it through the Grapevine" Remember?? ;-)
3. and sadly "Mike Smith" lead singer for the famous Dave Clark Five had died just weeks away from their induction into the rock and roll hall of fame. The Dave Clark Five was the only band to come close to the same popularity of the Beatles back in the 60's and even made a movie too. "Glad All Over" is one of their hits.
Mike Smith had suffered a spinal injury from a fall at his home back in 2003 and was partially paralyzed but was looking forward to the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which will be televised.
New reports say a special Mike Smith Tribute will be added to the show.
