Well, yet again Rotary Fest returns with almost the exact line up of musical acts it's used for the past 3 to 4 years. The main stage lineup for this weekend event is almost a carbon copy of the lineups in past years with only a few differences. Last year, original material was basically outlawed by the director probably because he just doesn't "get it". One of the smartest things to come along is the "Second Stage" which to me is where most people's interests should be. This stage will feature solid bands featuring their own material for example Big Wheel and the Spokes who just released a well received CD. As for the "Main Stage".. if you enjoy repeats and reruns, by all means, show up but if you video taped last years show, I suggest you stay home, crack open a beverage and watch the video.
Don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with the talent in the lineup what so ever but come on. Give some up and coming new talent the stage. Do you know how many good musicians and bands there are in this city, yet we use the same few for these events. It's no secret of my dislike for the director Jim Arcangeletti but it just shows a sign of laziness to keep milking the same line up for this event over and over and over. What would be even more discouraging would be that these bands do the same songs they did last year. We can only pray and hope they do not. But alas Mr. "A" likes it safe and I highly doubt you will see any change next year either in the Rotary Fest lineup.
Do I care? At one time I did and tried to have that changed but I was condemned for it by some wonderful fellow musicians who for some reason haven't been able to put a band together that works in over 3 years. Well here we are 3 years later and it's still the same. Is everyone still happy??? Same bands, same show, same, same, same. Talk about stagnent. It's sad that with the tons of good bands around town, the same 5 to 8 are the only ones Jim Arcangeletti has a clue about and I use that term loosely. Take a a bow J.A. You've brought the term "dull" to new heights. With a new arena almost complete and the ongoing Rotary Fest and Bon Soo events, do you think the Soo will EVER get a good solid HEADLINING ACT for these events. haha.. Not a friggin' chance. Even our local Casino smells of "cheesie" acts of entertainment.
This year I never had a band capable of doing Rotary Fest so my opinion is not to cry for my own band, as some critics put it years ago. You know who you are. Those critics can go stuff their shorts. My opinion is based on the fact that the Sault's suit and tie guys have numbed our brains with the "Bore us to death Fest" known as Rotary Fest. Can we say Jim Arcangeletti is"out of touch"?? You betcha!!
