Rumour Update for July 15 2014
1. The rumour of local bar Lop Lops taking a deep six with a broken water pipe are true.
Apparently the mess was significant to close the bar for a week (still closed from what I here).
Once repaired, they'll be back in business which should be very soon.
2. The rumour that Rotaryfest Second Stage won't be happening this year is true. I've heard
numerous reasons on why. One being cost of the event. No sponsorship. Bands constantly fighting
over their times slots, Cost of bringing out of town bands which I thought shouldn't happen in the
first place. It's a local event celebrating the Soo, out of town bands should not be a part of
it unless the band has local musicians in it. Also, a lot of local musicians are happy it isn't happening
because of the favoritism to some musicians getting in the show every years while others didn't. I remember
one year seeing the same musicians in at least 4 other bands throughout the event. Talk about a nice
paycheck for them. Wow, favouritism!!! Yeah, that was bullshit.
So why do I think I got into that show with Wishbone? That's easy..
They did it to shut me up, which will never happen. hehe.
3. Rumour that local celeb Mr. Disc (Todd Gordon) came to visit the Sault recently is true. Most remember his
great CD store up on Great Northern where you found the rare music you always craved. Todd and I have
been longtime friends and we share the love of music and creative writing. Yes, Todd paid a visit
to the old Freq like always. Todd is now a movie screenwriter
living in Boston. We talk almost daily. Todd always makes a visit to my place in his travels. Todd is
one of the biggest Rolling Stones fans I know. ;-) Eat your heart out Donna. ;-)
4. Rumour has it "Legend in her own Mind" D. Hopper, has beem pulling her hair out these past few weeks.
No Lop Lops bands to favour in her biased reporting because of the recent flood in the bar.
No Lop Lops bands playing at 2nd Stage to favour in her biased reporting.
No non Lop Lops band to snub on Second Stage this year... Damn.. I miss those days. ;-)
No visit from Mr. Disc to report.
No love from The Freq
Poor baby. :-(
The Freq is saddened by all of this.. .......Nah.. not one bit.
5. Rumour local singer/guitarist Jim O'leary is back in town. Yup, that's true.
I guess the grand tour to Ottawa was a bust. Who knows? Who Cares?
6. Rumour has it some local Lop Lops players have slid into the Main Stage at Rotaryfest
in one off bands. Geez!! Did anyone think that wouldn't happen? Honestly folks, The Freq
has never been a lover of this Rotaryfest music setup. I'm probably the only one
and that's fine but I refuse to be brainwashed by how these bands get chosen for
this event. Some bands have been in this event for years and years. We need
a "fresh" spin on this. It feels like our local Canada Day fireworks. Each year
we flow like cattle down to watch some dummy fire off stupid fireworks one at a time
for 13 minutes only to light 6 at a time for the last "hurrah" in minute 14. Then
we as cattle go home. It's the same
every single damn year!! BORING! Same as this Rotaryfest thing. Same bands, same
favouritsim, same same same. It's DULL! It actually use
to be fun when it was at the old Gardens. Miss those days.
7. OK Local Metal bands......Where are you this year?? Here you have the PERFECT
chance to have a Metal Stage this year showcasing your stuff. With the Second Stage
not happening, the road was clear for a fill in show of metal music. Am I the only
one that saw an opportunity for this??? What happeneed? The setup is perfect.
Find a sound guy and just set up on the street where Second Stage would normally
be and let 'er rip...
Are you telling me "The Freq" is the only one that thought of this?? This was handed
to you on a golden platter and no one jumped on it. Where are these local metal promoters??
Why are they not all over this? Totally missed opportunity kids... You should have
listened to "The Freq" when I said to start Rotary Metalfest years ago.
Alas, The Freq knows nothing? I know this, Metal bands blew a chance to shine
this year with this missed opportunity. ;-)
8. Rumour has it I've joined local band 100 Gran.. That's the story and it's true.
we will see if it gets off the ground this coming September. Yes, my band
Flat Stanley is still recording and yes, my 60's band "The Peace Vibe" is about
ready to play and yes, "The Mourning Glory" finally has music recorded and will
hit Reverbnation soon. Stay tuned
9. Rumour has it my neighbour built a fence 4 feet onto my property and The Freq
had to b*tch slap him. Oh yes, this is true. This dweeb is not a lover of
Freq's music either so it's been a fun ride. All good now. ;-) A b*tch slap
from the Freq is always a wonderful experience hehe.
10. Rumour I will be shutting down this forum soon. Well, it's always possible just
because I'm so busy with tons of other projects these days, but I will continue
to try and keep some posting happening.
Freq out folks
