This has been an interesting topic for a few days on the internet. The Red Hot Chili Peppers fake a halftime show performance at the the big (snooze fest) I mean, Superbowl game the other night. Fans of the band were kind of shocked and buzzing as were some of their fellow musicians. Flea said in a statement that the NFL made them do it. Made them do it?? I highly doubt anyone made them do it because really, they had the choice to say "NO" if they weren't able to play live. Like really? This is the band that plays with no clothes on half the time and they were made to fake? Supposedly they weren't getting paid anyways so to most of us, this is a cop out.
I think it's a joke because a band like this doesn't need the money and have been known to want everything their way so it was a "head shake" moment when I heard them admit to faking the show.
Some of my fellow musicians seem to think it's ok with what some of us call the "Milli Vanilli" effect. Remember them? Their career was based on faking and lip syncing. So really, if some think it's ok to fake the Superbowl gig, why not fake all the gigs if it's ok? That way, we'd just have watch the band jumping around while the actual album track plays. That's basically what they're saying. Some will argue that it's OK to fake...........sometimes.....like for Superbowl. Duh!! Like how much exposure do you need? I mean really. Do you want a gig to show what you "can" do, or a fake gig that shows "nothing" of your ability except to mime to a sound track. Yeah, we know Spears does it, Madonna and others but come on... a rock band? That's just cheesie. Still, some of my fellow musicians love this Pepper band and will stick up for them even though they faked it. I on the other hand don't like the band and rather enjoyed their moment of disgrace. :-) This is kinda like your girlfriend that you love faking orgasms.. haha You love the band and you want them to put out on stage but they... "fake it". Some can live like that.. I cannot. ;-) If it's ok for the Peppers to fake it, then it's ok for your girlfriend to fake it. ;-)
Anyway.... It means nothing to me but a good laugh. A band I can't stand, fakes it in front of millions. That is a priceless moment that I think will haunt them for the rest of their lives and continue to make me laugh throughout mine.
