I've been asked to start a thread by a number of local musicians that will monitor Sootoday's biased reporting of local bands for the year of 2014. Messages sent via my Facebook page and this forum have concluded that Sootoday is not fairly reporting the musicians in our city but rather focus repeatedly on a small select favoured few. This has been going on for over 5 years sooooooo... we will monitor the progress of our local media and keep tabs on the reporting and see if things improve over the past 5 or 6 years. Stay tuned. And please... when reading this thread this year, wear a helmet.. It could get messy. ;-)

Screwtoday ;D Such poetry Freq. Pure poetry. This should be one amusing thread. Might even be better than the late movie or Letterman. I'll have my popcorn ready.

What an interesting surprise. Sootoday has actually advertised the upcoming Killing Field show at the Oddfellows. This has to be a festivus miracle. :-) It is apparent that reporter Hopper reads Freq's Music Planet or my rants on my Facebook page. Either way, a step in the right direction has been posted. hehe!! Link below. www.sootoday.com/content/news/details.asp?c=67332Freq Rules!!

hahaha... DNA Great line Floyd. That's the best. Well, here's another one on Sootoday... This one for Rusty McCarthy.. great local guitarist. Of course another Jay Case plug. Some who posted on my Facebook page felt some nausea whenever Jay's name is mentioned by Sootoday's Donna Hopper which is "a lot". Once again, another plug. For those counting, is it 3 mentions for Jay Case this past 2 weeks or only 2? We'll get a total soon. Here's the link for those keeping score. www.sootoday.com/content/news/details.asp?c=67467This post goes out to Scott. ;-) It's going to be quite easy to prove my point of the biased reporting of local media. Yuppers.. this is a no brainer. Freq Rules. ;-)

Found one that was missed on Sootoday. Article by Craig West (Cases Music) but plugged by Sootoday. The article has nothing to do with music but it is connected with our subject matter as West is a Lop Lops regular, on Sootoday, with a plug for Case's Music. This is like that connection to Kevin Bacon game. |O| If people aren't sure what the Bacon game is, Google it. It's too early in the morning for me to type even this much. West article. www.sootoday.com/content/news/details.asp?c=67528 I just knew this thread would be fun.

You won't believe this folks!! It's a Sootoday music article written by you know who about a CD release by you know who at you know know where. No.. I'm not making this shit up. Not to mention Jay Case is a side member in the band. So that makes 4 plugs for him in less than a month by Sootoday. And a few think I'm "imagining things"?? Yeah.. give your heads a shake. Here's the link. Believe it folks... your local media is biased. www.sootoday.com/content/news/details.asp?c=67572Ok readers... especially those that are local musicians. Have you released a CD or even music online for download to the public? Have you tried to get mention on local media and got snubbed? Be truthful because I have local band CD's in my collection who never got squat from local media in press or notification. What this thread is about is "why" you're not getting one stitch of recognition. This is a media problem and it's quite simple to fix. The media can easily listen to your CD or at least one song and do a sweet little plug for you. It's takes a few minutes to listen to one song, a half hour to listen to an album and you can even be doing something else while listening.. then post a nice little note promoting it. So why doesn't our local media do that? Simple, they're stuck up snots with no variety in the taste of their music loves. If you don't fit their taste, you're getting nothing from them. This little post from me took exactly 10 minutes to write and I listened to 2 songs while doing it. You tell me... is it possible to write about more than the medias favorite 4 bands at the medias favorite bar? Of course it is. I just proved it. Freq

Here we go again.. Local 2, now owned by Sootoday has an article on the same band of musicians .......again. I have nothing against the musicians. Remember this. I do have a problem with our biased press. So once again, a video about the same band of musicians playing the same bar. www.local2.ca/ssm/viewarticle.php?id=14208You tell me... biased media? Or not? We're one month into 2014 the majority of the same musicians are getting the plugs by our wonderful biased press. We'll never change it because many of you have sent messages and gotten zero replies, I being one of them. ;-) I'm just making a point. There is also mention on Sootoday about Rusty McCarthy's new CD and release party. We'll give them that one even though one member is part of the other crew. ;-) Freq

You beat me to it Freq. I saw it on Facebook. Such a cozy little circle there I must say. I hope they don't wipe each others asses. That would really gross me out. So what's the total Freq so far? Are we up to six mentions for Lop Lops, 6 for Jay Case, 3 for Frank and Lake Effect. I know I'm missing some. New month tomorrow. Any guesses?

Ok Freq. I thought you posted the link I did but after careful observation, I found a previous link to yours. So add another plug for that band and the bar plus 2 other regular bands of that bar. This is hilarious. Here's my link. What a joke. www.local2.ca/ssm/viewarticle.php?id=14197

Do'h... I missed that one damn it all. Floyd.. you're a trooper. I did see a photo of Jay Case in that link so that ups the plugs by one.
I might add, no other bands were listed or talked about for this weekends playing lineup around town. Screwtoday rules!

I bet 20 bucks Hopper does an article on the release party for Lake Effect today. I'll even throw in an extra 10 if she posts pictures. If she mentions Jay Case, I'll throw in an extra 5 spot.

There is silence at Sootoday this past while. Do you think they're finally getting the hint? ;-) I did see a thing on "Mustang Sally" which scores some points. :-) I still have no faith in Sootoday or other media outlets.

They just covered the launch of Heavy Thursdays (the new weekly metal/punk series at The Rosie) from last week, as per www.sootoday.com/content/news/details.asp?c=68289, complete with photos of The Bear Hunters, Punch, and the debuting Elements.
