Oh yes, lots of people have asked for it and you shall receive. The rumour mill for the first time this fall. Here's the gossip.
1. The Machine Shop looks like the cool new venue for our local city. This rag to riches story is still in development but after attending the recent Gino Vannelli concert there, I can say that this may be something really positive for live entertainment. Hang in there while this story develops. The old paper mill building actually has far better acoustics that I ever thought it would being that it has wood in the ceiling area. It also has a rim balcony which the sound techs for the show I saw, used for lighting. There seems to be a bar/kitchen setup to. Working on the parking area is still in development as the rest of the area is being ripped apart. I'm sure most of that will be on hold as winter approaches.
2. Local country rock band Thin Ice loses another of it's original members leaving only one original left. TRUE! New guitarist is long time metal and part time country guitarist Terry Eaton. Lead singer Nathan still remains but the core sound of the original members which included yours truly.... is gone. Time will tell what the new band sounds like. They play this weekend at the Rockstar with a fill in drummer for this gig.
3. Lop Lops continues to book local bands, which are basically the same musicians in the same band but with a different band name. Well, it's kinda true. I guess if it works, you can't knock it. Seems odd to see write ups on Sootoday featuring a new band there every other week and it contains the same musicians. Anyone else notice that? Maybe I'm seeing things. :-)
4. STILL NO LIVE FOOTAGE OF CHEEZIE SMURPHY! It's a mystery for the ages. The band with the chins have escaped being caught on video after years of gloating their super music powers on the masses and even in death, or hibernation, no one brings forth one shred of video proof these guys had talent. This is like the Big Foot or Loc Ness Monster mysteries. The Freq still awaits such video evidence.
5. There are more metal bands locally than there are shirts to clothe them with. It's true. I've seen the videos. There is a shortage of shirts in our fair city and metal dudes are suffering. I've seen many videos where the poor bands have to play half naked just to survive. This HAS TO CHANGE, especially with winter coming. I think everyone should band together for a shirt drive and help these poor metal guys get some shirts... Good ideas?? yes? no? ;-) We'll call it the "Save a Shirt, Save a Metal Dude" drive. HA! :-)
6. There's a rumour going around that "The Freq" is full of himself... Well obviously that's TRUE. Can you imagine me being full of someone else? Kripes, that would be like some freaky (freqy) science fiction shit don't ya think? Yucky.
7. Rumours of the Candian Bar being renovated into an indoor pool. This is a new one to me but I'm sure it will save on reno's every time it rains. I wonder if they'll have pool bands playing? ;-)
8. Rumours of Grip Lock, damn, I mean Griphook and 7 Year Itch are the same band are kind of correct. I keep wanting to call them Grip Lock for some reason. 7 Year Itch is less one member. TRUE. Perhaps one member is suffering from the 7 year itch? They have cream for that I'm sure. I haven't seen them live, and probably won't but the videos I've seen were ok. Not great but good. Cover band doing Stones and AC/DC and the Hip. I keep hearing rumours of the lead singer Jim leaving for a world solo tour but he's still here. Could be just a rumour. ;-)
9. Rumours of the New American bar confusing it's audiences are TRUE. They can't make up their minds on whether to be a country bar, old classic rock bar, or a metal bar. Remember what I said in one of my "Glen Yaps" videos... when you confuse your audience, you lose your audience. I know there are new owners of this bar but they have to tame down their confusion. Honestly, from the shows I've attended there, the 60's 70's music theme works best, but what do I know? ;-)
10. Freq's Music Planet is sneaking up on a decade online.. Umm. Vicious filthy rumour... ;-)
11. The Freq HATES snow..................TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't stand
this crud.
12. There's a rumour that local online news sites Sootoday and Local 2 have merged. TRUE!!
Now we'll get to see the ever so narrow minded and biased Sootoday music reporting of old in the new biased video format of Local 2. The world is great eh kids?? I'm pinching myself with excitement. Just think, we'll get to see the same 4 bands Sootoday always gloats over in beautiful HDMI video. To quote my favourite comedy team of Ren and Stimpy... "Happy Happy Joy Joy". Ok.. in the real world.. let's just all throw up. You and I know kids that none of your bands will ever be featured on those sites because, you're not one of their 4 favourite local bands. You'll just have to take pride in that just like the Freq does. ;-)
13.. Yes, for Hallowe'en, I'm doing a 13th rumour for October.
The FReq and Rob Figures of Sault Metal Scene have decided to join forces and cover country music exclusively with a new forum that will be called "Freq'n Robs Square Dance". ..................HA! It will have a line dancing section that The Freq will personally oversee.
Ok... I'm fibbing. ;-)
Happy Hallowe'en kids.. Stay safe.
