It is with great sadness that I mention the passing of local guitar player Jean Paul Fecteau, also known as J.P. JP was the lead guitar is the local rock band JAB back in the early 90's. The band played local shows including a few at the old Eastgate and even opened for Sass Jordan for one of her shows there. After the band parted ways, he and I still ran into each other and talked and for a long while he struggled. He had given up guitar and was trying other things. In recent years he had a baby and things were good. I talked to him a few weeks ago and he was in good spirits. Sadly, that would be the last time I would talk to him. Newer musicians may not have heard of him but he had made his mark back in the day and a young up and coming guitarist for the JAB band who played classic rock like Rush, Montrose, Judas Priest, Foreigner and more. I have nothing but fond memories of being in that band with him. JP jammed with lots of local musicians including drummer/ singer Mike Oakley in a cool local band called "The Lost Boys" with a few members from the JAB band. All of us are in total shock of his passing. He had just had a birthday in November but was still young with so much to look forward to. You just never know when your time comes. JP will be missed by many.
Here is audio from one of the first shows JP and I ever played together. Both he and I replaced the bands previous drummer and guitarist almost in the same week and the band grew from there. We played numerous gigs around town and even opened for Sass Jordan at the old Eastgate. Some of those music memories were captured on tape and this one was the earliest. Enjoy the raw beginnings of the JAB band with newbees JP and I from 1992.
