Out of blue comes "Griphook" featuring some veteran well established musicians. From the hype, their music will satisfy the tastes of a wider audience. That sounds good so far, right? Anyways, the lineup includes my ex Flat Stanley singer Jim O'leary, who if you don't know, is a classically trained guitarist. Also in the lineup is Brian Oja, one of my favourite local guitarists and singers, Dan Beaupre on bass, one of the top five bass players around and the dweeb man himself on drums, Mr. Johnny Fabs. 3 out of 4 solid musicians ain't bad eh? ;-)
Nice to see Mr. Oja back in the limelight, something I thought would never happen. I've tried for years to get him in my band Flat Stanley but it never happened. Dratz! :-) If Jim can hold it together, I'm sure this band will sound great. There is definitely some vocal power there and musicianship... They make their appearance at ToyStock, a fundraiser for Christmas cheer that is happening November 25 at the Canadian. I can't make the show because I'm working but I'm sure they'll be playing other places soon.

I found some video of Griphook, compliments of Rob at Sault Metal Scene. The band performs an AC/DC classic, something Brian has performed many times with his previous band. The band looks a little nervous in the video but I'm sure with more gigs under their belt they will find their groove. As for the drumming... ah... no comment. Ok.. maybe one... When you play AC/DC... make sure you find the pocket. ;-) Click the link to see the vid.

There's another Griphook video at of them covering another AC/DC track and a newer Red Hot Chili Peppers song. Not bad at all, the talent's there to take them far!
Also, you've probably heard of them already, but Lucky 13 debuted at Toystock too, featuring Ed and Jeremey from the old Route 69 lineup, Jeff from Turner Up/Johnny Lunchbox, and Roger Sartini. I dug their sound, and it was good to see the guys back on stage!
