Ok. Our local musicians definitely have a crisis in full force lately. During the past 2 years I have watched some great local musicians sink to extreme lows under the influence of booze and drugs. Everyone who knows me understands that I'm anti chemical abuse. Waking up this morning and reading the news on Sootoday has pissed me off to no end. Yes, my ex-singer in Flat Stanley decided to drive into a telephone pole with his new truck while under the influence. (Sootoday DUI Article) Needless to say, many of his friends including the band tried to get him to seek help but of course, we're the enemy at this stage of the game and we went our separate ways. This is not the only case. Numerous musicians have been nailed this past 2 years. Local band Gsis Murphy's bass player got arrested for DUI, Wishbone's guitarist was also picked up for a booze related goof up. What is it with you morons??? Here we have some extremely talented and "gifted" musicians who just can't get their heads out of their asses. Am I wrong to be a critic about this? Hell no!!! You're on public streets running into things.. It could be people... children.... animals.....buildings. You could KILL people. What is wrong with you idiots? I have mentioned to 2 of the 3 people listed above about their habits and posted about the 3rd person before. What part of "Do Not Drink and Drive" do you not understand? What part of "Drugs Fry Your Brain" do you not understand? These messages have been drilled into your thick skulls since you were pissing in your diapers but still you take the plunge. It's pathetic.
So, my ex singer just didn't want to think about his family, friends or his life and now he's wrecked himself, his truck but most importantly his life. I feel so sorry for his children who now have to live
with this. Yes, they are the ones that suffer the pain and humiliation. Kids always seem to suffer in this. I may sound cruel but alcohol to me is not an illness and you get no sympathy from me. You are brought up to know the wrongs and rights of booze and drugs. You're also brought up knowing they're addictive. If knowing this, you put this shit in your body, then you pay the price. If you want sympathy after that, too bad because you made a "bad decision". If after numerous people tell you to stop doing this shit, like I have done with 2 of these musicians, and you still do more stupid things, you live with the consequences and enjoy your fate. These musicians have a gift, something that can do good for them but most of all bring good to others. Most people only dream of being as good a musician as these 3 goofs but it doesn't phase them in the least. They'd rather be remembered as a drunk with a DUI record. As mind boggling as it is, these dumb asses chose the poison.
I am royally pissed off at my ex singer and friend of 10 years but I knew for the past few years he was heading down this path. When you live with an alcoholic father like I did, you see the signs. BUT, no one listened to me and most of all, these 3 musicians think I'm a horses ass. Well, at least I know where my brain is and I know where my priorities are.
Some readers might think I shouldn't post things like this but the fact is, their arrests are on the news first. The entire community reads it first because the community along with our local police want to make examples of drunk drivers. These 3 have affected many lives including my own, so the fact that booze is at the root of it allows me my right to free speech. Believe me, what I say here is far less painful than what their families are saying now or what a court hearing brings up. ;-)
I've written a few articles on the decline of our local music scene due to drugs and booze and when more than 3 cases hit the news within a year locally, there's a problem with our local musicians.
Think I'm full of shit? Look around. Take notice. I know of at least 10 other musicians on the brink of full blown alcoholism and drug addiction. Their lives are shattering as I speak and along with that, they're ruining the lives of innocent family and friends. WAKE UP musicians. Don't throw away the gift of music for booze and drugs. The cost will always be greater on your health and life and more than you can every deal with. Put your efforts into music and the good it brings to others. If you need help than seek it out. You don't need booze or drugs to enjoy life.
To the idiots who think they're above the booze and drug thing and that it will never affect them, I'll just say this......."You're a MORON".
