I figured I'd post this link to help some readers with the Metal Music styles and labels that have developed from the 80's Glam and Heavy Metal music. I am no expert by any means on a lot of the bands in these styles for the simple reason, it's not what my ears like to listen to but there is a strong movement in popularity of these types of bands that play all genres of metal music. This link gives a rough break down and some descriptions of the music themes but by no means is it the bible to follow. Rob from the The Sault Metal Scene would contest to that. I just hate music "labels" and reading this break down of metal styles makes me hate labels even more |O| Music is constantly "morphing" into something different or new and thus new labels seem to be attached to the style. It's damn confusing and it annoys the crap out of me. For example.. punk merged with polkas creating poopy rock, from there it started folk rap with a funk tinge. That style added flavours of death metal with blues swing music and gave birth to yodelling glam rock.. From there Gospel was added and the new style was ..............SHUT UP already.. Talk about annoying. It's not just metal music that does that.. It's ALL music. When will it end. Makes my head spin |O|
Anyways, this link is just to be used as a reference point for some, I repeat SOME of the metal styles. Visit Robs site The Sault Metal Scene for a bit more in depth discussions on the topic but if you want the basics, click the link below. The music is, how you say, an acquired taste. Click the link.. if you dare.
