Yes boys and girls, it's that time again by popular demand. Freq's Rumours Rumours Rumours is here for yet another installment so sit back and enjoy.
1. Apparently local rockers Wishbone have yet another new drummer. TRUE It appears that Wishbone is the Sault's answer to Spinal Tap. hehe. Their drummers keep spontaneously combusting. :-)
All kidding aside. I did some fun fill ins for the band this past summer to help them out while they searched for a replacement. The band had auditions and Scott McClurg is now in the driver's seat. Wishbone spends too much time writing than playing these days and if they're not careful, the audience will start to forget who they are. A good rockin' band but they need exposure and some live shows.
2. There is a rumour that ex Flat Stanley singer is starting a new band. Well, I talked to a bass player that he approached to do this thing so I'm assuming that is a possible "TRUTH". Time will tell if it flies.
3. Rumour Griphook is back playing live after a long hiatus. I did see their name on the board at Rednecks. Not sure if the man of a 1000 chins is still drumming for them or not. ;-) Does the Freq care? Notta. ;-)
4. Rumour Thin Ice is actually going to have the same line up longer than 3 months. TRUE That's a record I think. :-)
Last story was of them replacing of Mark Mitzie with Gsis Murphy's/ Griphook's one beat wonder. That is by far the "mistake" of the year but hey... perhaps they know what they're doing.. ;-) That move tells me otherwise but what do I know.. I'm only "The Freq". I know nothing. hehe.
5. Rumour has it that the next Metal show at the Oddfellows will actually incorporate "Lighting". FALSE.. As baffling as it is to the Freq, these guys love to play in the dark. Makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Rob Figures and others do all this promotion with videos and what do you see in said videos...... "Shadows" and possibly a Fire Exit sign in the back of the video. Ok.. I understand the "mood setting" of the music with having no lights but you have to think of the "promotion factor". If turn outs to these shows are diminishing, it's time to rethink how you promote them. This might be a stretch but try this... If you use lighting and even a killer banner with lighting on it, we might see who the hell you are and actually remember who you are. ;-) I've watched tons of videos from concerts there and you know what.. I couldn't tell you who's in what band because I never see their faces. Time for a change guys.
6. Rumour their is a Little Caesar's Pizza going in the westend.. TRUE! It has to be true.. it was on Sootoday. haha
7. Rumour the March of Dimes had a bunch of bands play for a fundraiser. TRUE. I knew nothing about it. TRUE... Was it even advertised? Rob Figures covered the show nicely on his Sault Metal Scene site with videos.. ( with lighting) ;-)
8. Rumour.. Yes, the rumours are true that I was in the hospital because my heart rhythm went erratic and they had to zap me with those funky paddles on my chest to get the old ticker beating right. All is good now but when you wake up and your heart isn't beating right plus the fact I'm a drummer that knows how to keep a beat... I could tell something was drastically wrong. What was the cause of this little problem you ask? Turns out my Electrolytes were out of whack caused by lack of sleep, too much exercise and not enough fluids and a few other things. All is good now. Sorry Freq haters.. I'm still here to torment you for a little longer. ;-)
9. Rob Figure's mom is a rocker.. TRUE! I had the great honour to meet Rob and his mom at one of my band's gigs a few weeks ago. I've met Rob a few times over the years and he's always cool, calm and collected. His mom is a sweetheart and also very good looking and and very much into 60's music like yours truly. My band The Peace Vibe did a recent gig at the Soup Kitchen and they showed up. That was a nice surprise. I talked to both of them on a set break. Rob's mom is always commenting on The Peace Vibe videos I post which I enjoy. Always nice to know someone who is a fan of 60's music like myself.
10. Rumour.. Freq's Music Planet is heading into it's 11th Year??? Ahhhhh. I can't remember.. Let me check on that and get back to you. I'm old and forget. :-)
11. Rumour has it that to some, the recent Brad Paisley concert in the Sault was the best concert ever..... Ok... let's get something straight... Brad Paisley is one smokin' guitar player. That's a giver, but the guy wrote a song called "Ticks" and I had the embarrassment of playing that song in Thin Ice when I was with them. Seeing Pink Floyd live or Rush live would be the best concert ever... not Brad. Sorry. you need to get out more. TRUE Brad is a pro and puts on a dyno show but not the best.. sorry.
12. Rumour has it that I have more drumsets than socks and underwear. TRUE.. Who the hell needs clothing when you can have a drumset. Common sense no??
13. Rumour local area guitar great Gary Hatch has moved to Nashville? TRUE.. Gary and I have been friends for over 20 years and I was even a drum teacher at his store in Sault Michigan. Gary and his wife Sheila have moved but have hired a manager for the Grooves Music Store in Sault Michigan. He rented his house out and is now jamming with a band in Nashville. Gary and his wife just wanted a total change of environment since their kids are all grown up. It's sad to see him go but I wish them well on their new life in Nashville.
14. Rumour has it I'm back doing fill ins for bands.. TRUE It's been years since I use to do tons of fill ins for bands. I needed a break from it but recently I have filled in for Havadder on 2 occasions, Dorian Grey on bass numerous times and on drums once, and also Mo Jo for a show. I just missed it and hope there are more fill in gigs in the near future.
15. In recent months I've heard two rumours about me. First one is that I folded my band Flat Stanley. That is FALSE.. Flat Stanley is still recording and actually had a session just the other night. We also have two singers coming to record vocals soon so put that rumour to rest. Another strange rumour was that the Huckster band and I were having a reunion. That is also False. Huckster is dead and the last time I talked to the singer, she had no interest in performing again. If you're a Huckster fan... sorry.. not true.
16. Rumour has it Sootoday once again snubbed yet another of Freq's bands. TRUE. Hard to believe but yes, The Snob Hopper did not do a story on the Soup Kitchen show or The Peace Vibe playing the show. Sad isn't it? haha When I was told that Snob Hopper was going to cover this event I laughed and said flat out she won't show. Freq was right again. I hate being right so often haha. I can't help it. Needless to say it was all for a good cause. As we all know, I'll promote my own stuff but it is fun to watch The Snob Hopper and Screwtoday avoid me. |O|
That's all folks.. ;-)
