Howdy y'all. Just a few quick updates while I'm off work sick. I'm bored and need something to do.
Here we go.. :-)
1. First up, the rumour is Tony Fabz is out of Southern Fried band and Mr. Fuller is in. If true, that's now one solid kick ass band. Fuller is a killer drummer. As for Fabz... well, let's just say, all talk and no mojo gets one unemployed. ;-) Do I smell a Gsis Murphy reunion? Barf.
2. Yes, rumours are true that my song "The Drones" is entered into the "International Song Writing Contest" for this year. Anyone can enter if you pay the fees per song.
3. Rumours of a Route 69 reunion are false. What I've heard is that 2 members of the old lineup (Jeremey/ guitar and Eddie/ Lead vocals have regrouped in a new project with ex Gully Yodellers drummer. They are apparently auditioning bass players. Should be a solid outfit when done. As for Route 69, yes, I've been working on a new lineup for the band but have not found a solid singer yet. I will keep you posted on that. As with the original lineup, I will be on bass.
4. Rumours are flying that the old Foggies, recently Feedback will now house either a new Coch's bar or a bar under a new name by Coch's owners. Nothing confirmed yet. That bar has been cursed with noise complaints and parking issues for years. Who knows if the new bar will fly. I loved playing there back in the day but hate where the new stage was placed after the last Foggies run changed it. I hope they put it back where is was.
5. Local Indie band Kallie Mattson have a new EP coming out. True! It's called "Lives in Between" and I believe the release date is May 1st. Everything is going right for this band, including tons of shows, lots of airplay, Muchmusic play of their video and album sales. Love them or hate them, people out there seem to enjoy what they're doing and whomever is managing them knows what they're doing.
6. I heard a rumour of a new "used music gear" store opening locally but I've not heard anything what so ever to back this up. Music stores in general are hurting for business with online buying and Ebay so I think this is just a rumour.
7. Yes, there is a battle of the bands which is a fundraiser for the Humaine Society. Wishbone is entered along with many others but as of yet, absolutely no details have been given out yet and the date is April 20th at the Grand Theatre... 10 bucks to get in. As for band order, length of sets, what gear is used, who's doing sound, what time it starts, is still not known.
8. Local prog rockers Machines Dream had a CD release party. True, and sadly I was sick and missed it. Not sure how the show went off but Crank Sound was doing sound so they had good sound :-)
9. Rumours of a new Mike Cliff/ Glen "the Freq" Thomas song project are true. Mike and I have been talking ideas and we'll be on it soon. ;-)
10. Rumours of a Larry LeClair/ Glen "the Freq" Thomas song project are also true. Larry has been writing and working with a new recording rig and I will be supplying drums on at least one tune.
11. I recently saw Keith from Cheesie Smurphy after a movie (ghost rider) a while back with a few other musicians and my wife. At least it appeared to be him. I could be wrong. ;-) He kept his head down most of the time and also looked away. My wife and I came out of the theatre and came across these musicians talking in the parking lot. Sadly, he kinda scurried away as I approached and didn't say hi or give me a hug or nuttin'. Isn't that sad. :-( Funny how he was tough standing next to my bands performance with his fellow bandmates for the KISS contest, but alone, he was kinda squeemish, even nervous that the Freq was near him. Tsk Tsk. It was quite amusing when he noticed it was me. haha. People seem to get the misconception I hate the guys in this band but the truth is, I just hate the band and the BS image they decided to give themselves in the band with their attitudes. As individuals, outside of music, I have no problem with them at all. I don't even know them outside of the music thing so how can I hate something or someone I don't know? I'm sure they're fine human beings when they're at home. Anyways, it was cute to see a smurf in public. haha He actually looked kinda blue like a smurf. ;-)
That's all folks. Enjoy this nice spring weather. :-)
