Hi Freqster.. We got home a-ok.. We had a great time. Sorry to hear about your online friend Mark. Fabulous drummer. Thanks for giving me those recordings of him.
That Soonet forum is pretty sick Freq. I don't blame you for quitting the moderator job. Just from what I observed from the other moderators actions, it looks pretty corrupt. Then you got banned. |O| You're such a goofball but I love ya.
I like the new touches you've added on this forum and I'm looking forward to seeing the video section up and running soon.
Michelle says hi and thanks for all the fun. She wants to take Sneeker home. Must get sleep now..
Love ya babe. Nikki

Boy Nikki. You aren't kidding. The whole Soonet thing has taken on a gloomy atmosphere. I've never been a member but do read it from time to time. Someone's messed up big time over there.
Freq. Mark Craney's drumming on Brother to Brother is mind blowing. He does all these soft ghost strokes plus a flurry of double bass in the solo section. I downloaded it this morning. I also went to the Jethro Tull site and they have a memorial up for Mark. It sounds like he was a well respected musician.

Yeah Nikki and Bilko.. Soonet has sunk to new levels. I won't be back with the current mods in power. I've written Vianet about the problems there with 2 of the mods and their past history. It's amazing what Soonetters don't know about these 2. One made headlines back in the 90's and this is one of the many reasons why I could no longer be a part of the mod group. It's apparent Soonet needs background checks of these 2 crooked mods and future mods. We'll see what becomes of it but I'm quite happy being away from the carnage. I wanted to step down as mod since the beginning of summer. It just wasn't fun anymore.
Glad you liked the Mark Craney stuff. If you can find the Gino Vanelli live concert from 77 and the Jethro Tull concert from around '80,, pick them up on video.. Mark just rips on those concerts. I'm sure Modern Drummer will do a feature on him in the next few issues.

Found a band I saw back in the late 80's then known as Pegasus. The band at that time was a 5 piece outfit doing Rush, Saga, Genesis, Yes and other prog rock stuff. At the time I was living in Simcoe Ontario and the band I was playing in at the time (wizard) was off for that weekend so we decided to check these guys out. Needless to say they were fantastic. They left a lasting impression.. Fast forward a few years to good ole Sault Ste Marie's Royal (now River Rock) A band shows up to play called "Speck Jennings". These guys were the talk of the town back around '94 and most if not all musicians that saw this now "trio" were blown away. I recognized the bassist and drummer from the Pegasus band.. I think we all thought this band would make it. The had the talent, the songs and the image. They released a self titled CD called Speck Jennings but didn't seem to do much after that.. Well, while surfing the net today, I find the band is still together and is now called "Freedom Train". By the sound of the bio on their site, they are doing cover material again. Sadly there are no sound samples on the site but check the site out anyways.. If I can find the old Speck Jennings CD, I'll put some sound samples up to hear what the band was about back in the mid 90's. Freedom Train aka Speck Jenning aka Pegasus

Singer Lou Rawls died of cancer 01/06/2006. Lou sold over 40 million records world wide. I always enjoyed the jazz shows he hosted on the Black Entertainment Network. He help to promote so many up and coming jazz players like Charlie Hunter for example.

A friend of mine and I finally took a tour of the Country and Western hall of fame in the Wellington Square mall this past thursday.. There are some great pictures of artists from years gone by including some wonderful sketches of some of these artists. The Hall of Fame also has some old music equipment and a few promotions for new artists.. There are a few artists that I didn't see picture of but it's a small place and figure there are limits to what can be displayed. All in all a nice tribute to C&W musician's..

I stumbled upon the Country and Western hall of fame in the Wellington Square a few weeks ago. There is a very large amount of material in such a small space, and as you say, photographs and many sketches. Someone has really put alot of effort into this.
I imagine that to anyone involved on country music, this would be a goldmine of nostalgia!
I almost went right in.....but once again, too shy.

There was talk of it moving to Timmins.. Not sure where I heard that or if it's even a true thing but it would be kind of an odd decision if it were true. Apparently funding is a problem keeping the Hall of Fame going.

I just watched the movie "That Thing You Do" yesterday, the movie about a band called "The Wonders" trying to make it in the 60's music scene. I'd have to say this movie and the Commitments movie are my favourite music story flicks. Love the sound track too. I love 60's music. The Doors movie was also good with Val Kilmar.. Anyone else have a fav?

60's music is a blast! I am a huge fan of Richie Havens from any Woodstock doc or video. The man has passion. He moves me.

Freq: "That thing you do" is a good movie too, I think Tom Hanks wrote a lot of the music in that movie
