We all stink at some points in our music careers O.B. In my case, I just made a career out of stinking longer than others.. ;D

Well I'm the happiest camper ever today. I could just scream!!!! Ya HOO! After a long search I found some music a friend of mine asked about weeks ago in a moldy old box of Beta video tapes in my basement. In it were some old photos of the last touring line up I had of my band Driver. Originally this line up was a 3 piece and then added a singer. My friend asked me about the singer I had at that time who was Rick Thompson who I hired out of St Catherines. We're talking 1991-92. Most of my tapes from this band were wrecked by a sump pump flood I had well over a decade ago and one good board recording was lost in Thunder Bay on a gig. Out of pure luck I was going through some old Beta tapes and on this one labeled tape were the words written in faded ink "Driver featuring Rick Thompson. I freaked.. Sure enough there are 3 studio songs featuring this awesome singer I hired from St. Catherines. Rick was also an amazing bassplayer but did only vocals in this lineup. At the time Queensryche was huge and Rick had that Geoff Tate power and vibrato to his voice. We were doing Iron Maiden, Dio and just a bunch of great material. We got to open for recording act Big House (where the hell are they now???) and do some touring. Rick decided to leave the band to get on the tour boat circuit and my band moved on to one last singer before calling it quits. Anyways.. here are 3 studio recordings and some old pics of the Driver band from 1992. The recordings had started to dissolve but I managed to save some half decent sound from them. Cymbals and a lot of the clear highs are gone. :-( These songs are 3 originals written by Rick of which 2 are big huge power ballads.. (something you don't hear much of anymore). The songs are kinda dated but Ricks voice is outstanding. It was a pleasure to have worked with such a pro musician. Here are the songs and some pics I found in the same beta case as the tape of these old tunes. The pics are pretty wrecked too. :-( Song 1 - Torn To PiecesSong 2 - GamesSong 3 - Lost SoulsMike, Me, and Andy Rick Live at the Blue Diamond (Thunder Bay)

cool pix, freq I 'especially' like that first one ;D listened to 1/4 of 'Games' (that's all i could get after an hour this morning) at least it was worth it. wow..heavy. great sound
that last pic of Driver at the bottom reminded me of someone I went to high school with. His mom (teehee) gave me his band's website a couple of years ago when I bumped into her. Unfortunately the band Shadowvale is now defunct but here is my former schoolmate's bio-pic and a link to a few of their songs. www.igs.net/~shadowvale/band/jim_bio.htmlwww.garageband.com/artist/shadowvale/podcast/newsletter(in case you needed to smile today, :)as for myself,lmao-It's life Jim, but not as we know it.)

here's a song I wrote for my Mother who passed away 6 years ago in October. I recorded it on the computer using a sh*tty radio shack computer mike.
you have to copy and paste the url, take the space out between the h and the first t.

Yikes Nezumi.. Boy do I remember the days of "slow" internet.. eek. I could have reduced the bit rate but the quality is pretty rough already from the bad tapes. I checked out your schoolmate's site. The one song has a Spinal Tap sound to it. Is he still playing?

I wish I knew what Jim was doing now. I'd enjoy nothing more than to sit down with him and catch up. I'll just have to run into his parents again.

Here's a link to local Prog Rockers Gates of WinterSounds like they will be recording new material in the near future. Great to hear another band jumping on the "original music" scene around the Soo.

I've seen the Obsession name bounced around on Soonet. I thought it rather odd that a band names themselves after a strong smelling cologne, but hey what's in a name. I've heard some dandy band names in the past....like "The Spinning Yoda's" which I think could go into the worst name ever bin!...lol I've always been partial to the piss wizards

Listen to a few songs by local band "Big Wheel and the Spokes" on their My Space website. The band's music is in the flavour of blues and jazz and their EP is selling well and getting solid reviews. Big Wheel and the Spokes

Another band that has been drawing local attention is the band "Bondar" who will performing this August 26 at Hempfest. You can view their My Space website at the link below. Currently there are no music files on the site but they are working on it. BONDAR

It appears that Bondar is no more. From what I hear, some of the members have gone to school out of town. Hopefully the band will regroup this coming summer. They have taken down their MySpace site which is a bummer because they had a few good tunes on their.
