Yes kids, it seems like just yesterday the old paper mill's building now called "The Machine Shop" was a future hope for concert events but through good sources I have learned that it's already in money trouble, so much so that an ownership change of the Machine Shop may be happening. The future of the Machine Shop won't be concerts if what I'm told is true but more of a banquet hall for weddings. Don't laugh. Wedding banquets are HUGE money. Our local Bush Plane museum has cashed in on that in the past 5 years. People are always looking for a unique place to have weddings. The problem with the Machine Shop now is that they aren't getting headliners in. If you don't bring in someone that is "huge" in a place that big, you might as well keep the doors closed. The current owners are in financial trouble and judging by the recent Bon Soo Treble Charger - Lake Affect bomb that seems to have had some "rumoured" shady cash issues, I'm not sure how long it will last in current ownership. Let's get this straight.. I'm not saying the shady money dealings had to do with the owners. Keep that in mind. Events booked for this summer (not concerts) are already in financial trouble to the point where the current owners may not be able to deliver. That could mean huge trouble. So don't hold your breath on anything coming from the Machine Shop until an ownership change happens, which is in the talk stage as we speak. After that we might be totally out of luck for concerts there altogether. Hey.. you can't blame them. You have to make money to support a huge building like that and the cost to heat it and pay the taxes is probably enormous.
So I've said this from day one. Stop bringing in Canadian bands if you really want to make a buck. If you have a huge venue and you want to make money get a top notch "KNOWN" U.S. band to fill your venue. This is the Sault... we see the same shit everyday here. Bring someone in that you wouldn't expect here and you will make money. No offense to Treble Charger, they had a hit but that's not my idea of a huge artist.
So, the future of the Machine Shop is in jeopardy. You heard it here first. ;-)
