101 Radio has decided to have a Battle of the Bands contest to pick a local opening act for KISS this coming December at the Essar Center in Sault Ste. Marie. 20 bands will participate over a 2 night span. Each band submits 2 songs on a CD plus a nice 25 buck entry and then play 10 minutes on stage for the contest. Winner plays with KISS. This will be held at the Canadian bar. |O| Now, since Wishbone got banned from playing for the Grady show, are they going to be boycotted from this show? I'm not with them anymore so we shall see. Now, is my main band Flat Stanley boycotted from the contest since I was part of Wishbone when the boycott went down? Should be interesting eh folks? Both bands should be boycotted if the Canadian as Gsis Murphy get their way again right? I do have a connection with 101 Radio so we'll see how this plays out. Wanna bet the ultra slime band Gsis Murphy has this wrapped up in some prickish way? Let's just see. ;-)

My band Flat Stanley officially entered the "Open For Kiss" contest tonight. We are the tenth entry. I will also note that Serge Polumbo's band is 9th. 10 spots have yet to be filled for a total of 20 spots. We also wrote 101 Radio explaining about the boycott scam the Canadian and Gsis Murphy pulled on me not long ago and if our entry get's lost for some odd reason, OR we don't get to participate in the Battle of the Bands contest , we, along with 101 Radio will know why. Whether we win or lose, we deserve a shot at it. Being the show is at the Canadian we have little chance of winning just because of politics but playing our original songs in public none the less is still a plus. We have more than enough material to pull the show off the Kiss show if luck comes our way ;-)

Heard a rumour that Gsis Murphy wants to enter this Battle contest. Now how amusing is that? Let's see how this band makes out in front of the musicians they screwed over recently. Funny how this band can cut the throats of their fellow musicians and then have the balls to enter this show with a clear conscience to be on the same stage as us. But of course I knew they would. I would be highly insulted if they didn't turn this KISS contest into a sleaze fest. It's their way. Remember folks, I've been saying this from day one about this hack band. They will step on anyone to prove they're top slimes and if it means sucking their way to a win, they will do it. Everyone I talk to expects Gsis Murphy to suck dick to win this and why not? They're at the Canadian bar they seem to control. Should be fun folks. I'll post video as I get it. haha

I think either Flat Stanley and Wishbone will get boycotted from this and the sleaze bags will get in. They're pricks. If they play and you guys don't, I'll park my ass center stage with a camera filming their shit. If you guys do get in, I hope you kick royal ass.
If you get boycotted this time I'd hire a lawyer. That would be horseshit if that happened again.

Rob at Sault Music Scene has mentioned on his site that these other bands besides my Flat Stanley band, entered.
Lion Ride Garden of Bedlam Caveman Morrison
I know that there are 10 bands as that comes from the front desk of the Canadian. That was confirmed by my guitarist sunday night.
Serge Polumbo's band is another entry.
Rumours of Wishbone, Sleazy Murphy and Stiflers' Mom are still not confirmed.

Floyd you're so excited I can tell |O| If you get footage of Smurfs, I'll definitely post it here. Bring it on haha
Quite frankly, this is a pretty solid line up of bands. Most are established talented band (minus Sleazy Murphy) but I'd have to say we're the weak link so far just because of style. Should be fun. I'd like to be before or after Sleazy Smurfy. wink wink. Is it possible to put us back to back? COME ON!!!! I dare ya. After what these guys did with the boycott, the least they can do is put me on the stage before or after these smurfs. I think I'd enjoy that more than winning |O| In Fact, I know I'd love it more.

Well I'm hoping for Dustin Jones and the Rising Tide to win.
I like a contrast when I go see a head liner. These guys are great musicians and although the music doesn't match, I think they'd put on an awesome show. I just just think most of the entries, including my own are going for a balls out performance. Something tells me the underdog should be in it. ;-)
I've listened to the songs all these bands have on their sites thanks to Rob at SMS for posting links, and Dustin Jones stands out that's for sure. Stillbroke has some good stuff there. Chic drummer too.. Gotta love that. If she drums live as good as the recordings, watch out. All the bands are good. Obviously some are tighter like Lion Ride but material wise excluding the musician ship, who is the strongest? I don't think anyones material stands out as superior. The new Wishbone stuff kicks but none of the new songs are on their site yet. I'd hate to be a judge at this show. ;-)

Add The Billy Bastards and Blues Harvest to the tentative lineup, and probably remove Dustin Jones too, looks like they're gonna be in Southern Ontario during the battle. Other than that, I think those are our 20!
NOT OFFICIAL THOUGH, WAIT FOR OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM ROCK 101 AND/OR THE CANADIAN!

This thing keeps changing on the hour :-)
Crank Sound Distribution is doing the sound with George Ravlich at the helm. That's a bonus as there is none better for the job.
Drums are supplied Bass rig is supplied You must supply your own guitar rigs
Each band has 5 minutes to set up and 10 minutes to play. That's IT!!! So ya better know how to move your ass.
The lineups for bands per night are being gathered. Rob at SMS has a list started to hit the link on the bottom of Freq's Music Planet.
Updates to follow ;-) after I get some munchies and take a little nap. |O|

EDIT SATURDAY AT 2:19 AM Add Sykotyk Rampage to the lineup, Dirk Becker has confirmed their involvement. That means another band dropped out. I believe it is MBM, as their frontman confirmed on their Facebook page that their drummer will be unavailable for it. Remember, I'm not connected with this event, I'm just doing what I can to update everyone! saultmetalscene.blogspot.com has the 17 bands I know have a confirmed day, still waiting for word on the last 3. Caveman Morrison, The Fury, and Middle of Nowhere have been announced as being a part by varying sources, though I don't know which specifcally are 100% on. MBM and Dustin Jones are likely out. Rumours about Papa Fogals Chair's involvement were false. If there's another band I haven't heard about, my apologies!

Here is the list of bands per day so far. A few not confirmed yet. Homework done by Rob and a few other Freqy people.. |O| Who exactly is deciding which bands play on either night is a mystery. Add Middle of Nowhere to Tuesday, Tony Fabiano (an ex-drummer still in contact with the band) let me know that they're definitely on Tuesday!
Two bands left, both on Monday

Tonight is the night!! You have to be there from the start as 2 songs per band will just fly by and if you blink, you'll miss a performance.
Playing order will be decided by draw so at this point, no order of performance is known so once again, if you're late showing up, you may miss the band you are supporting. For me, I'd rather be first and start it off but we shall see.
Anyways, come support Flat Stanley tonight. We are one of the few oddball acts in the contest so it's a long shot for us, but you just never know.
See you there.
