Just a quick note. The band Saga has got a new drummer after the tour with Styx. The drummer is Brian Doerner. Some will remember him from Helix. Should be an interesting combo.. I still can't picture it but....hey. Past Saga drummers have been Steve Neugus who recently played the Memorial Gardens in a Chicago Tribute band, Graham Lear of Santana and Kurt Cress an unbelievable studio drummer from Germany. Check out Saga at www.imagesandwords.com/saga/

Hey Freqster.. I had a great time seeing you again. Too bad it wasn't on a day you were playing. Thanks for the guitar lesson CD and the drum lesson. I'm all over that as we speak. Can you send me the link to your MP3 site again? I lost it. Val has been nagging me to hear that Cherry Poppin Daddy's tune you guys do. I searched the net for news on John Hoggs and sent you a link.. check your email you Goober you. I forgot to tell you that I stopped in at the Satisfied Frog and Chris says hello and wonders where you've been. She asked if you still play the American side but I said I don't think so. Give her a call. I'll be online later. bye for now baby Nikki~~~~*

A friend brought this to my attention a few weeks ago. Apparently the show "Beauty and the Beast" that would normally hire local jazz musicians to play the show were not asked to do this particular production. Instead, one person was hired who basically programmed the music. Rumour has it that this one person got $1500 more than the band would have cost? Does that not seem sad? The big thrill of seeing a broadway style show is to hear a fabulous big band is it not? I've read articles on how these shows are done in New York etc and without a band, the show doesn't fly. The show is as big a part of the show as the actors. I guess I'm just disappointed that this happened to some of our finest local jazz players.

You don't see this too often.. While on tour, the band King's X lost their tour bus to fire. Everyone was ok including their gear. They have another bus now and have continued the tour.. They took some pictures of the aftermath of the fire.. Here's a link to some pictures of the burned out bus. King's X Tour Bus Fire pics

The band "FLAT STANLEY" is looking for a bass player. After 3 plus years, our bassist has moved on and is continuing as a guitarist in his own project. We've tried out some good players but no one quite right for the band. We need a bassist that can play different styles. Our music ranges from Rush, Pink Floyd, Styx, Blue Oyster Cult and Ozzy to modern rock by U2, Foo Fighters, Big Sugar, Rob Zombie, Orgy, Garbage along with Top 40 music by Wide Mouth Mason, Cherry Poppin' Daddys, Smash Mouth, 9 Days, Duran Duran, Collective Soul and Bob Marley to name only a few. Our list is well over 100 songs. We need a bassist that can play rock, progressive rock, swing and blues but must also be able to improvise. We also do our own original material. We have a full production P.A. and lights, a full rehearsal area and places to play. We've played Docks, Foggies, Eastgate, Smack Daddies, Madisons and the Canadian on a regular basis over the past 5 years. If interested, PM me.. Here is the link to the Flat Stanley website or if you wish to hear a few songs by the band, I've provided links to one of our originals and a few live cover songs. I just posted a John Lennon memorial picture on the main page. I can't believe it's been 25 years since his death. Always one of my favourite song writers along with Paul McCartney, I still feel the world could be a better place with song writing by Lennon or Lennon and McCartney. There's been such an emptiness left by his passing. It's amazing the influences he's had on so many. Imagine......if john was alive today

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of drummer Mark Craney, a friend I made over the past years via his website, email and online chat. Mark Craney became famous drumming for Gino Vanelli, Jethro Tull and others. During a concert show many years ago, he collapsed on stage from apparent kidney failure. He waited a long time for a transplant and it finally came . He started his comeback and with great drive he did it. Alas, kidney failure once again struck him and he once again waited for yet another transplant. It was at this time I went to his website and emailed him after seeing his story of health troubles. I got a response later that day and we became friends over the past years. I had been a fan of his since the late 70's but actually getting to know him in a somewhat personal way changed my life. His spirits were always high and he continued to play.. After a year of waiting for his second transplant, his body started to break down and his last email to me was that he had to stop drumming as he was too weak to play..He did however continue to teach a few people. His drumming on the songs Brother to Brother by Gino Vanelli and Jethro Tull's live version of Aqua-lung will always be the songs that put Mark Craney among the elite of world class drummers. Thanks for your inspiration and friendship Mark.. God bless..
